Operational Experience Matters when Transacting Business Jets

Operational Experience Matters when Transacting Business Jets

Helping long time customers extract maximum value when selling their business aircraft and the absolute thrill of spending other people’s money (wisely  and strategically!) on quality business jets, will never get old.  Both new and long time Customers often tell me as we close a transaction that they forget how complex these deals can be to get across the finish line.  Hiring an experienced broker to keep you out of the many $100k, $500k, and multi-million dollar mistakes I regularly see DIYers make, will always be a good investment.

Working with first time Buyers has been a passion of mine since very early in my career when I was an Operations Manager at a regional aircraft management and charter firm.  As an experienced aviation professional you know you are about to change peoples lives in ways they think they know, but they don’t fully appreciate.  Watching highly productive and successful Clients grow their businesses and operate as efficiently as possible  in their personal lives is powerful.

As complex as transactions can be, operating aircraft with an unwavering focus on saftey, service, and efficiency is more complex based on my experience.  During the decade I was part of a very high performing aviation team at Mountain Aviation (a major regional aircraft managment and charter firm acquired by Wheels Up in 2022) I saw this every day.  As operations manager, and then managing the relationships with our managed aircraft owners (the core of our business!) I worked with the very best operations, mainteance, and aviation finance people in the business.  We faced so many challenges as we scaled the business with a commitment to quality. While there are many aircraft brokers with years and even decades of transactional experience, few (if any) bring actual aircraft operating experience at a single-pilot flight department, cooperate flight department, or world class management company.

At Tern Jet Sales our team was crafted in the fires of flight operations!  I know it sounds like hyperbole, but running large fleets of business aircraft globally, is non-stop problem solving around the clock in a super fast paced TEAM environment.  There is simply no better preparation one can have if your goal is to help Clients find their first or 10th jet than being involved in day to day flight operations at a major business jet operator. The more you are around flight operations the more you learn about the challenges of proper “care and feeding” for biz jets.  This becomes invaluable in helping clients evaluate their missions, pick the right model/variant, evaluate operating strategies and set up flight departments or pick appropriate aircraft managment companies.

Operational Experience Matters when Transacting Business Jets. When choosing a broker to help you with your next business jet or turbo-prop acquisition ensure you choose a broker with OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE – choose Tern Jet Sales.
